The Young and The Restless is CBS’ longest-running scripted series, returning for its 50th season on Friday, September 30, 2022. Y&R will celebrate its five decades of romance and rivalry throughout the season, including its March 26 broadcast anniversary, and will unveil a new logo in honor of the occasion. The season will build on classic storylines with the return of fan favorites and more intrigue and family drama for the iconic characters.
A little back history:
William J. Bell and his wife Lee Phillip Bell developed Y&R for CBS. The program takes place in a fictitious version of Genoa City, Wisconsin. They made their debut on March 26, 1973. The series’ first 1747 episodes aired five times a week in half-hour episodes. Beginning with episode 1748, which aired on Monday, February 4th, 1980, the show switched to a one-hour format. The show had to recast several prominent characters after switching to a one-hour format on February 4th, 1980, and gradually phased out the original core families in favor of new ones because actor contracts were for a half-hour show, not an hour-long one. The Bells chose Genoa City, Wisconsin as the inspiration for the show’s setting after passing through it on their weekend trips between their home in Chicago, Illinois, and Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
In the 1990s, the network broadcast three prime-time specials of The Young and the Restless: on October 25, 1995; on May 22, 1996; and on March 10, 1998. Young and Restless was the first daytime programme and soap opera in the United States to air on HDTV. The Young & The Restless has been nominated 33 times and won a total of 11 Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Drama Series.
The series’ supply of fresh episodes ran out on April 23, 2020, as a result of the CoVid19 pandemic. Up to the time that new episodes could premiere, they showed reruns of old episodes. The production ceased on March 16, 2020 and started up again on July 20, 2020. August 10, 2020 saw the return of new episodes. Young and Restless airs at 11:00 a.m. on the vast majority of stations in the Central, Mountain, and Pacific time zones, typically as a lead-up to the regional noon news on the vast majority of CBS stations outside of the Eastern time zone (though some stations in the Central Time Zone opt to air it at 11:30 a.m.).
Additionally, the program is syndicated globally. In the nations of Europe, it is particularly well-liked.
Young and Restless received a four-year renewal in 2020, extending it until the 2023–2024 season. They will celebrate that big 50 in March 26, 2023
