Actress Jennifer Aniston said on Monday that her father, legendary actor John Aniston, who was best known for his work on the daytime serial “Days of Our Lives,” has passed away. John passed away peacefully on November 11.
John Anthony Aniston, an American actor of Greek descent, was born Yannis Anastassakis on July 24, 1933. His most well-known role was Victor Kiriakis, a character he created in July 1985 and has played continuously ever since on the NBC daytime drama series Days of Our Lives. He was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in 2017 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for the performance, and in 2022 he was given the Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award. He is the actor Jennifer Aniston’s father.
Aniston was born to Stella Joanne (née Koume; 1899-1992) and Antonios Anastassakis (1889–1965) on the Greek island of Crete . When Aniston was two years old, the family left Crete for America; upon arrival, his father anglicized the family names. The family made their home in Chester, Pennsylvania, and owned a restaurant there.
With his first wife, Nancy Dow, Aniston had a daughter named Jennifer Aniston (born 1969), and with his second wife, Sherry Rooney, he had a son named Alexander (whom he met while co-starring on Love of Life). Telly Savalas, one of his closest friends, served as the godfather of his daughter Jennifer.
Romeo and Juliet was one of many first-edition books that Aniston had since he was an ardent admirer of Shakespeare.
John has played the role of Victor Kiriakis, with the exception of a 2004 plotline in which his character was “killed off” but later found alive on the island of Melaswen, he has been a member of the show since 1985.
For his role as Victor, Aniston was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in 2017 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. In 2022 he received the Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award, which his daughter Jennifer accepted for him.
